Back in the early 70s when I first saw Corelle dishes I was really impressed. The dishes were as thin as fine china and under normal use they would not chip or break. The secret was a triple laminating process that gave them a glass Corning calls VitrelleTM glass. It was good looking, but when it first came out there were limited styles and patterns. When I moved out on my on, these were the first dishes that I bought.
The only problem is that I have NEVER chipped or broke a single Corelle dish. To get into new Corelle dishes, I have had to give several sets of these dishes away, but that is not so bad because they look as good as the day the were bought.
The great thing about Corelle dishes is that they were were first sold in 1970, just as microwave ovens began selling for household use. You could heat food on Corelle dish ware without a fear of harming the dishes. CORELLE Vitrelle dinnerware can be used for serving and re-heating food. CORELLE Vitrelle dinnerware can be used in microwave and pre-heated conventional oven.
Another big advantage of Corelle in the 70's was every one was beginning to buy dishwashers. Corelle is a great dishwasher safe product because of its toughness and heat resistance.
Corelle dishes come in several different styles, including Square, and a heavier and (believe it) an even tougher Ultra. The Ultra has a 5 year no chip no break warranty . The other styles are name: Impressions, Lifestyles , Livingware, Square And a stoneware dish collection called Hearthstone.
Corelle dishes now offer there best selection ever with modern styles and long lasting utility. This is one great buy and a wonderful item for wedding gifts, house warming, and holiday giving.
